My new camera: a Quartz 3 Zoom Standard 8mm Soviet-Russian Cine Camera
Today was a bigger day of my amateur film fanatic career. Even at New Year's Eve there are people in love with films, no wonder we agreed with the seller on the 31st of December, 2017 to meet.
Ferenc, the seller is living on the other side of the city, so I got in to my car - a 1998 Opel Corsa B 1.0 - and raced through the city relatively quickly. I did not have much expectation, since we are talking about a camera for 15 (yes, fifteen) euro.
But, as you can imagine, the thing I found was absolutely a miracle for me.
Ferenc invited me to his home and offered me a seat. There it was on the desk, a camera from 51 years ago, but in a state as it was just taken from the Soviet factory, a country's factory, that no longer even exists. The box has the serial number, manuals in three different language, many filters and accessories.
My Quartz not being a high end 8mm camera, still the look of it is quiet attractive. With the many chrome parts, all metal combined with the black, untouched plastic it has a fairly elegant style. What a time travel this item is. The original buyer bought it for 3200 HUF in 1966 - says the original ticket of warranty. 1966 was the year when Hungary beated Brasil on the WC 3-1. Very long ago. The price was also quite a lot of money back then. Two months salary of a university educated person. I wonder if I could spend such amount for a camera now. I think my wife would have a few loud word on it.
Ferenc slowly explained to me the main features and we had a little talk about loading and unloading the film into it, and about how the world has changed since this camera was bought.
Anyway it is with me now and I hope to test it soon and also make you a little bit of a tutorial to you. I will also upload the manuals.
Meanwhile please enjoy the pictures and the unboxing video I uploaded to my YouTube channel.
